I used Prezi.  Prezi is a fantastic presentation tool. Prezi defines themselves as is a virtual whiteboard that transforms presentations from monologues into conversations: enabling people to see, understand, and remember ideas. Prezi has many different tools that can be used to enhance a presentation such as writing, inserting, framing, pathing, using different colors and font, zooming features, and much more. It allows presentations to be more structured yet more interesting at the same time. It is easy to use and you can easily personalize it to make it toe exactly how you imagine it to be. Exploring ideas has never been as fun as it is now. Prezi should be used by business professionals whenever possible. Prezi made a list of all the things their software can do and slide- based PowerPoint presentations cannot. Prezi can create 3D zooming presentations online or offline, allows you to collaborate & present in real-time online, allows you to embed your presentations anywhere on the web, lets you choose from their library of 3D templates, allows you to store your presentations securely offline or in the cloud, you can showcase your presentations online, insert Google Images and YouTube videos directly into your presentations, access millions of reusable presentations to inspire your ideas and automatically sync your presentations with your iPad and iPhone. All of these things can only be done on Prezi so why not take advantage of these features.

Prezi’s number one use is for business purposes. In the business world today, sharing information is very important. Prezi allows for more interesting and effective presentations to be given. There are many features such as zooming on Prezi that allows for the audience to remain captivated and inspired by the PowerPoint. So, Prezi could also be used in conferences. Prezi just allows things to be more interesting. In classrooms, Prezi could also be used. Students very often space out or stop paying attention. Normal PowerPoint’s can be incredibly boring and hard to focus on. Prezi can make the classroom have more interaction with the material being taught. It can help to make kids better understand a concept in a way that they can remember for longer periods of time than they would with a bland PowerPoint. It is an amazing tool to be used in not just the business world, but in teaching children new things.
            Prezi is not truly made for social purposes. But you could use Prezi to help express yourself. You could use it to share information to peers in a fun way. Prezi is very interesting and can be used to enhance different forms of entertainment. Prezi is not really applicable for news or recreational purposes. It would be impossible for news and Prezi to go hand in hand. And you wouldn’t exactly use it for fun either so it really would not be considered recreational.

Google drive, once known as Google Docs, plays a large role in everyday life. Google drive is an open source program. It is used for saving documents, PowerPoint’s and spreadsheets. You can view them later or at any time. It is like a flash drive. You need internet connection to be able to use Google Drive. I personally use Google Drive all the time, mostly for school purposes. They have a “cloud storage” that allows you to access documents wherever you may be.  More than just computers, you can also download Google Drive as an app on your phone. You can allow other people to access your documents and you can all work on projects together.

Business is one of the main aspects Google Drive is used for. It has tons of uses. It is very efficient and allows the individual to share their information. I use it for school, and whenever I have a group project I always go to Google Drive. Business is almost all it is good for. Google Drive rids of the purpose of having a flash drive; it is almost a safety net for you if you did forget your flash drive.  They have all different types of things you can do on Google Drive too. You are not just limited to a normal document. You can make power points without having Microsoft PowerPoint on your computer. You can also make spreadsheets, forms, drawings, folders or many other of Google Drive’s various templates. Businesses can use these whenever they need to type something up because it works so well.

The social aspect of Google Drive is nonexistent. Social aspects mean that people use it to connect with others, which they can share to edit documents but that’s about it. As for entertainment, Google Drive does not provide any form of entertainment. For news, Google Drive is also not applicable. Google Drive is not used for recreational purposes. Google Drive’s only purpose for school.

Google Drive really has no purpose in social, entertainment, news or for recreational purposes. I upload a lot of assignments onto Google Drive. It is perfect for school. Sometimes, all I have to do is share it with a teacher to get it graded.

Facebook

            Facebook is something that almost everyone has. Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004. It started out very small and expanded to a large scale of individuals. They have millions and millions of users all around the world. People who use it are all different ages, whether it be adults or teenagers. Facebook makes a lot of money through advertisements. Facebook has a lot of positives and negatives, depending on what an individual does with it.
             Every business nowadays feels the needs to create a Facebook page, even when unnecessary. Facebook is a good way to advertise and to spread the word of your business but it truly depends on the business’ target market as to whether or not they should. Facebook is a very great for businesses and should be implemented.  Businesses must decide whether they want online sales or to attract likes.  Online sales meaning traditional external- website ads that someone has to click through to make a purchase. Facebook is very successful in advertising. Attracting likes can also provide businesses with better results.  You can combine branding and sales. Making a Facebook page as a smaller business helps you to compete with larger corporations.
            Facebook is a form of social media. Social media, as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos).  With Facebook, you can connect with tons of people around the world. You can use it to share pictures of your family and friends, to reconnect with old friends, and even sometimes to interact with new people. Social networking is awesome in that regard, but it is beginning to become too important in people’s lives. People are obsessed with getting the most likes on a photo, or with what drama is going on. It adds a lot of unneeded stress and irrelevance to people’s lives.
            Facebook definitely has an entertainment aspect. Facebook has many, many different games that all users can play. In these games there are a lot of purchases you can make and probably will want to make in order to make the game easier. Farmville is a very well-known game that got expensive for users to play. There is a lot of money put into this part of Facebook and entertainment is good to put on Facebook. Putting games on Facebook could make you a lot of money.
            Facebook plays a role with news. Facebook is a great way to share all kinds of information. Even completely irrelevant information is spread through this social media site. You can also direct people on Facebook to the news by posting links or “liking” a news channel. Social media does not replace ways to get actual news, but acts as an “additional path” in getting news.
            There are many recreational uses to Facebook. Everyone goes on Facebook. You can spend hours mindlessly scrolling up and down the newsfeed. It is made for recreational purposes. And it almost becoming too much, it is bad and it is good. Although it is entertaining, people are becoming anti-social and incapable of knowing how to react in different social situations because they are so used to just going and interacting with people via Facebook,

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a relatively newly recognized site. The website was launched in 2003, and grew exponentially in 2004. In 2005, they made their first business lines (jobs and subscriptions) which helped bring in a lot of revenue. In 2008, they started going global. Currently, LinkedIn has 225 million members in counting. Like any other websites, there could be repercussions if you post inappropriate pictures or harass other users. You could lose a job opportunity or your current job if you post the wrong thing. Nothing on the internet ever truly disappears, so you must be wary of what you do post. You should not overshare, keep it professional because there is a large chance nobody wants to know. Also, you should only connect with the right people such as people in your field. You should be original and try to make yourself unique! Do not neglect your profile or shun certain groups on LinkedIn. There are many things you should be aware of when you do make a LinkedIn account.

            LinkedIn is perfect in the business aspect. Linked in allows users to show themselves in a professional way. It’s like Facebook but for business people looking to expand their business or market themselves. You can prove your good reputation and credibility from this website. Business people are relying more and more on social media such as LinkedIn than traditional methods. They use their contact with you via websites, emails and social media outlets to make judgments on you. LinkedIn is a way for businesses to share information. The interactions can even be simply from an employee to their boss. LinkedIn acts as a business card for young professionals who are looking for a career. It is an awesome resource that anyone interested in certain business fields should pursue and take advantage of. Business is about the only thing that LinkedIn is good for.

            In the social aspect, LinkedIn is not like other forms of social media in that it is made for professionals who want to network with other professionals in their field or in similar fields in order to expand. You can gain possible clients or a new boss; it is easy to use once you get the hang of it and a great tool. The focus on this website is professional so work and everyday lives remain separated. It is nothing but business. Therefore, LinkedIn should not be used for social purposes.

  Businesses can promote their entertainment businesses, but LinkedIn does not really provide entertainment. For example, a company called Fame Spot has a linked in account where they promote their business. It can be used for entertainment purposes, but LinkedIn is not ideal. In the news aspect of things, you can promote new things and spread the news of new things. You can discuss what is going on in your business. You can also spread the word of possibilities of what is to come for your business. LinkedIn is not ideal for news either, but LinkedIn does have a stock and allows you to get news updates sent to you from LinkedIn. There really is no recreational purpose of using LinkedIn, you use it for business purposes or for trying to make a connection.

Technology's effects on Society

Technology, as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is the use of science in industry, engineering, etc., to invent useful things or to solve problems. In the past, technology was not as efficient. People weren’t worried so much about speed because they were so taken aback by the fact it even exists. Type writers could not back space like computers nowadays. If you messed up, you had to start the entire document over again. Technology had to advance along with people’s needs;  it was made to make life easier. Technology is always changing because society continuously wants slimmer, faster, more efficient items. There are different types of technologies for different kinds of purposes. Whether it is for business or recreational purposes, there is a form of technology for you.

Businesses use technology every single day. From the early invention of the type writer, to computers and smart phones today, the business world is always advancing.  Many businesses use technology to advertise. Social Media is an outlet for businesses to increase sales, awareness and consumer demand. Sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are almost seen as a necessity to all businesses in order to “get the word out” about their product or service.

Nobody would have ever thought the social aspect of technology would be so significant. The World Wide Web opened up a whole new world of social interaction. Social media has been becoming increasingly important in people’s lives. Facebook and Twitter are ways to stay connected with old friends. You do not even have to call someone anymore to know what they are doing, because they just post pictures on Facebook/Instagram, or even tweet about it. It is not a good thing because people are not interacting anymore in person and instead becoming introverts. Iphones are everywhere, people use their phones for absolutely everything. You see people walking and texting all the time, completely oblivious to their surroundings. We are to a point where technology such as computers and smart phones are taking over people’s lives and the world.

Technology in entertainment is very interesting. Movies, tv shows and whatnot are being made constantly. Actors and actresses are role models to society. People want to know about their lives just because they have acted in one of their favorite movies. But the process in making the movie is far more complicated.  It requires all kinds of technology, many different people have to be hired in order to create a decent film. They need sound people, people to record it, people to create the scene, and many other kinds of people. The entertainment industry is huge, even music wise you need a recording studio in order to make music that people actually want to listen to.

Everybody wants to know what is going on around the near them and around the world. Television news broadcasts allow people to know anything and everything, no matter how irrelevant to their lives it is. The news is turning into a form of entertainment society, with cheesy newscasters making jokes and music playing in the background. News is a form of entertainment as saddening as that is to hear.

Recreational use of technology is everywhere. Smartphones, computers, ipads, televisions, the list goes on. People always want the best gadgets on the market and pay a lot of money to get them. It is definitely abused; people do not know how to interact with others because all they use is Twitter and Facebook. People don’t go outside, they stay and do stuff with their technology. Technology is what people’s lives revolve around.
